Recognize
A slender winter annual grass with dark stem nodes and an open, branching seedhead; some awns are bent and twisted. WA-ventenata
Plants & habitat
Invades grasslands and hay systems. Seeds move with equipment and hay, and reduced perennial cover can leave soil vulnerable to erosion. WA-ventenata
People
The reviewed sources do not establish species-specific ingestion effects or a safe exposure amount for people. Missing evidence does not establish safety.
Dogs & cats
The reviewed sources do not establish species-specific ingestion effects or a safe exposure amount for dogs or cats. Missing evidence does not establish safety.
Other animals
Silica-rich mature growth is poor forage and livestock often avoid it. This does not establish chemical-poisoning safety. WA-ventenata
