FIELDWORK COMPANION PANE
Privacy
Effective September 28, 2026 · Store package 0.10.12
Fieldwork Companion Pane, maintained by Denson Smith, connects supported Fieldwork activities with their BoodleBox guides in Chrome split view. It handles page content and tab information locally to provide that connection. It has no developer-operated data collection server, advertising or analytics.
Information the extension uses
- Page content and drafts. On supported pages, the extension finds activity links, known draft blocks, the current guide, and the message box. It checks existing message text and the Send control to avoid overwriting an unfinished message or attachment. It reads a prepared website note when you choose to place it in BoodleBox, and handles recognized business-plan fields to display a draft card. These can contain personal communications, names or contact information you include, and business financial assumptions such as prices and costs.
- Current tab information. The extension reads tab identifiers, URLs, pending URLs, window identifiers and split-view membership to find the exact paired pages and avoid replacing another website. Tab metadata for other tabs in the same window can be returned by Chrome while the extension locates the pair. It does not access Chrome's stored browsing history, build a browsing profile, or read page content on unrelated sites.
- Published pairing list. The extension retrieves a public JSON list from the Fieldwork website to match activity pages to BoodleBox guides and keeps the last valid list in browser storage. The request does not include your notes or chat messages.
- Connection and control state. The Business Plan guide's controls use the extension version, a connection-check time, the responding workspace and your chosen chat/workspace mode. A connection report shared in a message does not include unshared website answers.
What moves between pages
Put note in BoodleBox places a reviewed note into the matching chat's empty message box. If available, a business-plan note includes the current connection report. Use the connected workspace and Keep planning in chat prepare a visible choice message. You review it and press Send. Use this draft applies the displayed fields to one matching website step after you choose it. The extension never presses Send.
The extension does not make its own network requests to transmit your drafts. Placing text in a BoodleBox page makes it available to that website; BoodleBox controls any processing or retention of drafts and submitted messages under its own terms and privacy practices. Fieldwork websites separately control their planning fields, tab storage, optional device saving and downloads. Removing the extension does not delete data already saved by those websites or by BoodleBox.
When you deliberately start another supported activity with its guide, the extension may open the matching BoodleBox profile, choose its Start New Chat button, and open the activity in the paired pane. BoodleBox creates and retains that conversation according to its own practices. No learner message is automatically submitted.
Storage and retention
Chrome extension local storage keeps the on/off preference. Chrome extension session storage temporarily holds pending navigation metadata: relevant tab IDs and URLs, the destination guide, a one-use token and an expiry time. A transition is usable for at most 60 seconds. It is removed after completion or cancellation; an abandoned record can remain in session storage until revisited or the browser session ends, but is not usable after expiry. Notes, draft text and financial fields are not written to extension storage. They are handled in page memory while the page is open.
Permissions and supported websites
storage keeps the on/off setting and temporary navigation state. tabs lets the extension inspect the exact paired tabs, including Chrome's blank split-view chooser, and open the destination you selected. The store package requests site access to box.boodle.ai and denson.github.io. Its activity scripts run only under /fieldwork/ and /colorado-weed-field-guide/; the browser grants host permission at the origin level. The store package has no localhost access. A separate development checkout may include localhost support.
The extension does not request access to cookies, passwords, authentication tokens, microphone, camera or device location. Copy-link buttons write only the selected supported destination to the clipboard after your click; the extension does not read the clipboard.
Your choices
Use the extension popup to turn the companion off, or disable or remove it in Chrome. Automatic checks stop while disabled. Use BoodleBox's own controls to manage its chats and drafts, and the Fieldwork site's controls to remove saved planning data. You can continue Business Plan First Steps in chat without the extension, or move wording manually with copy and paste.
Data use and sharing
Data handled by the extension is used only to provide its stated page-connection and draft-transfer features. It is not sold, used for advertising, or used to determine creditworthiness or lending eligibility. No draft content is sent to the developer by the extension. The extension does not provide a way for the developer to read your chats. If you voluntarily send a support message, the information you choose to include is used to respond to that request.
Contact and changes
Use the support contact shown in the Chrome Web Store listing, or report a non-sensitive technical issue in the Fieldwork issue tracker. GitHub issues are public: do not post private plans, credentials or personal records there. Material changes to the extension's data handling will be reflected on this page and in the relevant release notes.
